Ironically, the car is within a stone's throw of the Excelsior Hotel, in whose register Gould wrote "The end of Jefferson". Tour Homes Several homes are available for tour throughout the year. The 19th century homes offer a look back at Texas history.
- Freeman Plantation: Go West on Hwy. 49 one mile from the intersection of Hwy 49 and Hwy 59. 903-665-2320, the graceful Greek revival structure embodies the building style that distinguished so many Louisiana plantation homes. Giant magnolias and period furnishings complement the house, which has been cited by the Historic American Buildings Committee of the Department of the Interior. Tours by appointment.
- The Grove: 405 Moseley Jefferson, TX. 903-665-8018. Guided Tour through one of the historical - and haunted - homes from Jefferson’s past... Join us for an hour-long excursion into the historic old home that has been called "the most haunted house in Jefferson". Usual Tour Times (but please call to confirm): Saturdays 2:00 PM, Sundays 11:00 AM. Admission: $6.00. No children under 8 years of age, please.
- Singletons Virginia Cross: 401 N. Soda St., Jefferson, TX, 903-665-3938. Built in 1859, a Greek Revival home located in the older portion of Jefferson, close to the Jefferson Historic District, and an easy walk from downtown. Tours are conducted on selected Saturdays at 1:00 pm. Admission: $7.00.

Parks Caddo Lake State Park:
480 acres beside Caddo Lake; an area once occupied by Caddo Indians, a tribe quite advanced in civilization. Camping areas, trailer sites, cabins, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, nature trails and interpretive center. West of town on F.M. 2198 on Caddo Lake.
Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge: one of more than 500 refuges throughout the United States. The purpose of the 7,500 acre Refuge is to manage, conserve and protect the migratory birds and other fish and wildlife that depend on it. The Refuge organization is an independent, non-profit, 501(c)3 group that: Promotes the conservation of the natural resources of the Refuge. Fosters public understanding and appreciation of the Refuge. Engages in activities that will assist the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in its mission to conserve fish, wildlife and their habitats.
